Turning into the 21st century, with the speeding up of economic globalization, South-South Cooperation is changing from the main technical cooperation to an all round technical, economic and trade collaboration. Being an indispensable part of the bilateral and multilateral international cooperation, it boasts of a capacious perspective and a great potential. With a population over 80% of the world’s total, the developing countries have vast land, rich natural resources, numerous products, huge potential markets as well as diversified developing modes, and thus in many aspects they can enjoy mutual benefit, mutual support, mutual reference and mutual development.

2008 International Seminar on Food Trade & Investment, sponsored by the China International Centre for Economic and Technical Exchanges, the Ministry of Commerce, and organized by South-South（Beijing）Biological Technology Center, will be held in Beijing, China in October, 2008. With a theme of “Strengthening South-South Cooperation for Mutual Benefit and Development”, the event is the first international food industry seminar of its kind in China under the frame of UN South-South Cooperation.

Overseas and domestic government officials, professionals, company or organization leaders in the food industry will be invited to the event to present and exchange the latest food policies and project demand information. They are expected to probe into the food development strategy for South-South Cooperation, strengthen international industrial exchanges, facilitate the improvement and economic and trade development of food technology for the developing countries. A match-making business meeting would be also arranged for foreign and Chinese companies at request. The appointed official website of the event is www.ecdc.net.cn .
