Background
Nowadays,economic globalization and informatization has become the general trend of development in human society worldwide. The degree and level of informatization has become a significant standard to evaluate the comprehensive capacity and civilization in the social and economic development of a city. Meanwhile informatization is becoming an important impetus for global trade,investment,capital mobility and technology transfer, as well as for the development in all fields of society, economy and culture. Informatization building is good for promoting the common wealth and advancement of human being. Bridging the digital divide and creating digital opportunities has become the common mission of the development Of human society.
The "Forum on City Informatization in the Asia-Pacific Region (CIAPR)" is initiated in Shanghai in 2000 by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and the United Nations Department Of Economic and Social Affairs (UN/DESA), in response to the call for bridging the digital divide 0f the "ECOSOC Ministerial Declaration" and the United Nations Millennium Summit.
History
Since 2000, CIAPR has held five annual forums in Shanghai(2000,2001,2002,2004,2005)£®Altogether more than 4300 participants from over 180 cities in 105 Countries has attended the CIAPR, including a large number Of elites Of senior levels, such as former presidents, vice presidents, ministers, mayors and business leaders.

The mission Of the CIAPR is to provide a platform for government leaders, decision-makers and policy developers. business leaders and entrepreneurs,and technical professionals and experts worldwide to exchange visions. policies and strategies, technologies and products,practices and experiences,in order to stimulate economic and social development through city informatization In the Asia - Pacific region and worldwide, and to promote inter¡ªcountry, regional and international cooperation,particularly south - south cooperation, and, accordingly, to bridge the digital divide of the world.

Objectives 0f CIAPR VI
This forum will serve as a platform for key decision makers and policy developers to share their visions, policies and strategies, technologies,products,practices and experiences. The specific goals are;
¡¤Sharing experiences globally in innovative public services and e-participation practices;
¡¤Creating an e-network among participating Cities for future collaboration and cooperation on further development of e-government tools and applications;
¡¤Creating an environment that will foster the participation and inclusion of the poor;
¡¤Strengthening links and partnerships with the private sector for local e-government development;
¡¤Ensuring that local and national governments create a favorable environment for innovation, and participation via ICT tools;
¡¤Assisting technical professionals,in particular of developing countries,In identifying e-government practices and solutions.
Main activities

¡¤Plenary session: A keynote speech to be delivered in each of the four thematic plenary sessions by government leaders, ICT business leaders, and ICT leading scientists and experts.
