China-FAO-Gambia Triangular Agricultural Cooperation Project Launched

On March 10, the launching ceremony of the "Sustainable Rice and Millet Food Systems Transformation in The Gambia Through South-South Cooperation with The People’s Republic of China" project (hereinafter referred to as the "Triangular Cooperation Project") was held at the Banjul International Conference Centre. Ambassador Liu Jin, Dr. Demba Sabally, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Security of The Gambia, Ye Anping, FAO Director of the South-South and Triangular Cooperation, Karl Frederick Paul, UN Resident Coordinator in The Gambia, Moshibudi Rampedi, FAO Representative in The Gambia and more than 100 others attended the event. Lin Huifang, Deputy Director-General of the Foreign Economic Cooperation Centre, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, participated online and delivered a speech.

In his speech, Ambassador Liu stated that China and Gambia have always prioritised agriculture as a key area of cooperation. In the ten years since the resumption of diplomatic relations between China and Gambia, agricultural cooperation between the two sides has yielded fruitful results and many highlights. This triangular cooperation project is not only an innovation in the China-Gambia agricultural cooperation model but also an important practice for China to deepen South-South cooperation with the FAO. China is willing to work with all parties to deepen China-Gambia agricultural cooperation and contribute to the modernization of African agriculture.

Dr. Demba Sabally, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Security of The Gambia, announced the official launch of the project. He thanked China for its continued support and assistance to Gambia's agricultural development and expressed his belief that the triangular cooperation project would play a key role in increasing food production, boosting agricultural income, and improving living standards.

Other parties also spoke highly of the triangular cooperation project and looked forward to working together to ensure its smooth implementation, contributing to Gambia's food security strategy and benefiting the people of Gambia.
