Visitors from Bluemoon
Fund to HR C
On May 29,2002, a delegation from the Bluemoon Fund(USA) paid
a visit to HRC. The guests were Ms. Diane Edgerton Miller, the President, Mr.
Ji-Qiang Zhang, the Vice-President, and Ms. Pat Jones Edgerton, the treasurer.
It's their first time to HRC. Dr. Chen Shengshui, the director of HRC, Ms. Cheng
Xialei, the deputy director and Mr. Zhu Xiaozhang, the honorary director received
and held friendly discussion with them. Mr. Zhu Xiaohua from Division of Science,
Mr. Lu Jianping from Division of Electromechanical and Ms. Shen Xuequn from
Division of Training also attended this meeting.
During over two hours' cordial talk, the discussion was focused on the sustainable
development for new and renewable energy; the mature technology and rich experience
of SHP development in China; as well as the assistance on poverty-allevia-tion
for rural people, etc. The Bluemoon Fund is originally known as Jones Foundation,
which has been running for over 50 years, and enjoyed a high reputation in USA.
Recently, the Bluemoon Fund planned to select sites in Yunnan Province, China
and in Peru, to establish some special investment companies, to which excellent
talents engaged in various fields will be sent for providing assistance on planning,
evaluation, construction, operation as well as training. On this basis, it is
expected to create favorable investment environment, attract local investment
in various forms, and then have comprehensive development and utilization on
local resources effectively and efficiently, such as the integrated development
on water resources, rattan and bamboo resources as well as kinds of processing
industries, there- fore, to help local people to improve their living conditions
and to be able to enjoy rich life finally. The Bluemoon Fund stressed that,
distinguished from previous ways or from other foundations, they hope to be
able to set up a kind of new and practicable developing mode, which will help
the poverty-stricken areas find ways to increase income, and not only being
undertaken as a simple one-time donation.
The Btuemoon Fund showed its high appreciation of HRC's contribution to the
global SHP development, and expected possible cooperation and assistance from
HRC on the above-mentioned proposal. Meanwhile, with respect to the "new
concept aid" proposed by the Bluemoon Fund, which was featured as sustain-able
and comprehensive, HRC ex-pressed its admiration as well as the willingness
to offer technical support for the potential SHP projects.
