INVITATION LETTER

SUBJECT: HIGH-LEVEL MEETING OF PIVOTAL PARTNERS FOR SOUTH-SOUTH & TRIANGULAR COOPERATION

I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that the Chinese Government and the Special Unit for South-South Cooperation (SU/SSC), UNDP are planning to organize the above-mentioned meeting in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China from 29-30 November 2003. The main objective of the meeting is to move the concept and practice of pivotal country forward.

This letter is to formally invite you to attend this meeting on behalf of your government/organization.

The meeting will focus on the following key areas:

1. Policy: Experience in formulating national policies or policy instruments aimed at promoting TCDC and South-South Cooperation:
2. Institutional Arrangements: experience in establishing coordination mechanism and partnerships for TCDC and South-South programs;
3. Success Practices: Concrete cases of successful TCDC and South-South exchanges at bilateral, regional or interregional levels;
4. Future Orientation: Areas and capacities each pivotal country would wish to individually or collectively share with non-pivotal countries; and
5. Novelty in Financing: Successful practices in mobilizing national and donor resources for South-South & Triangular cooperation, or through multilateral channels.
