Theme 2: Moving beyond the pivotal-country approach
Presentations by "pivotal institutions":
1. Facilitating South-South trade and investment,
especially among SMEs (Sujit Chowdhury, Osvaldo
Agatiello and participants interventions)
2. South-South approach to fighting HIV/AIDS (Mr.
Joel Rehnstrom)
3. South-South initiatives in science and technology
4. Scaling up South South cooperation through
innovative triangular cooperation
5. Financing of inter-regional South South and
triangular initiatives for achieving MDGs (ESCAP,
South Africa)

Focused Working Group Discussions:
Focus of WG 1:
The need for stronger government and public sector
support for creating the conditions requisite
for scaling up South-South and triangular cooperation,
especially for ECDC. Such issues as national policy,
institutional arrangement and coordination, establishing
national S-S networks or national demonstration
base, national funding, etc. should be discussed
and concrete and actionable recommendations made.
Focus of WG 2:
The need for more active participation of the
private sector in scaling up South-South trade
and investment flows and technology transfer (especially
among indigenous and young entrepreneurs and SMEs)
that are likely to contribute to achieving the
MDGs on health, food security, education, etc.
and make recommendations to move forward.
Focus of WG 3:
The need for systematic mapping (documenting)
and marketing (disseminating) Southern Development
capacities for addressing MDGs, and mobilizing
all pivotal partners to facilitate and support
the matching of needs with such capacities, through
innovative South-South and triangular cooperation
arrangements, and make concrete recommendations
for implementation.
Nov. 30 Day Two
Morning
Working Group discussions continue, focusing
on consolidating concrete recommendations on joint
initiatives and follow-up and implementation strategy
for presentation to the Second Plenary.
Post Coffee Break -
Working Group leaders prepare the respective
WG's report and share the same with the Rapporteur
and his/her Drafting Team, and the Moderator.
The Drafting Team prepares the final draft report
to be presented to the afternoon plenary session.
Day Two (Afternoon)
SECOND PLENARY SESSION
1. Reporting by the three Working Groups on the
discussions, findings and recommendations on possible
joint South-South and triangular initiatives and
follow-up actions.
2. Presentation by the Rapporteur of the conclusions
and recommendations.

Finalizing any documents by Secretariat.
