Physical Geography:
Yanbian Autonomous prefecture lies in the North-east of Jilin Province of China. It is bounded by China, Russia on the North(the border line is 232.7 kilometers )and Democratic people＊s Republic of Korea(D.P.R.K) on the South (the border line is 522.5 kilometers).and it is also adjacent to Sea of Japan. Yanbian is an important and nearest region to link up China with other countries, and with Euroasia, such as D.P.R.K, Russia, R.O. K and Japan. The nearest region of Yanbian is only 15kilometers away from Sea of Japan, 4 kilometers away from Posyet Gulf of Russia. The nearest distance between the open city Hunchun and the harbours along the sealine of Sea of Japan (such as posyet, Zarubino, Vladivostok of Russia, Rajin, Chongjin of D.P.R.K, XinXie, Qiutian of Japan )is only 42 kilometers. The farest is not more than 900 kilometers. Furthermore, the distance from the eastern sea of Japan by way of Yanbian to Chita of Russia is 1500 kilometers shorter than the distance between vladivastok and Siberia.

Districts:
Yanbian Autonomous Prefecture is founded on Sep. 3,1952. The total area is 42,700 square kilometers, including six cities and two counties. They are Yanji City, Hunchun City. Tumen City, Lingjing City, Helong City, Antu County and Wangqing County. The capital is Yanji City.

Climate:
The climate in Yanbian belongs to middle temperate area moist monsoon climate. The weather is dry and windy in spring, raining from June to August, cool in autumn and cold in winter. The annual temperature changes from 2 degrees centigrade to 6 degrees centigrade. The extreme temperature changes from 每23(degrees centigrade below zero)to 每34 (degrees centigrade below zero). The highest changes from 34 (degrees centigrade )to 38( degrees centigrade ). There are 2,150-2,480 hours is of sunlight a year. The annual precipiration is between 400mm and 650mm. 60%of rainfalls occurs in June, July and August. The annual average wind speed is 2-4 meters per minute.

Population and employment:
The total population of Yanbian is about 2,200,000, of which 39.7% is Korean( 854,000), 57.4% is Han Chinese. Other minorities are the Manchu, Hui, Mongol and Zhung Chinese. The increasing rate of population is 0.4%. and the urbanization of Yanbian cities is very high. in 1997, the nonagricultural population is 1,243,000. In Yanbian, there are skillful and well trained employees, and their savings are lower than the employees＊ in littoral foreland. Recently, more and more investments make the labour productivity of Yanbian increase continuously. In 1997, there are 124,000 scientific technologists in the whole Prefecture, including 73,000 naturalists and 20,000 employees abroad. In Yanbian, there are 3037 people per 100,000 people who get college education, this is 2.1 times of the average quantity of China, higher than the average rate of Jilin Province. The quality of labours is better than most areas. The labours are liable to accept advanced technology and experiences.

Natural Resources:
In Yanbian, the forests territory is 3,472,000 hectares. 78.2% of Yanbian is covered with forests, the total reserves are 300,000,000 cubic meters. There are 120Kinds of trees, such as Korean pines, white pines. Sand pines, larch, northeast China ashes, linden, while brich etc, Yanbian has rich mineral resources. The metal deposits are lead, zinc, corpper, aluminum, manganese and coal, petroleum(reserves are 0.1 billion tons) sandstone, rock crystal, mica ,kaolin, cement, diatomaceous earth and garnet, The known coal reserves are 1.2 billion tons. The annual outputs of coal is 4,140,000 tons, and the generated energy is 2,367,000,000 kilowatt-hour . so the electric power is very sufficient. Hunchun Power Station whose designed capacity is 1,400,000 kilowatts ahs resched 200,000 kilowatts. The second project (600,000 kilowatts )has been brought into line with the state plan. There are about 487 rivers in Yanbian. And the total of the power resources is about 1,400,000 kilowatts, of which 47,000 kilowatts are being used, and 250,000 kilowatts installed capacity is being built with great potentialities.

Yanbian has rich local specialities. There are 500 kinds of wild animals and 500 kinds of wild economic plants. GinSeng, Pilose antler and marten are called ※there treasured objects of Northeast§. Yanbian is one of well 每known treasure- houses of herbs in China. The world 每known Changbaishan Mountain is the complete natural combination of the world＊s original ecology state. Chnagbai shan Mountain and the boundary scene of ※To see three countries at the same time§ of Tumen river＊s lower reaches are the hot foreign and domestic tourists.
